Introduction
The Catacombs was an area designed in a Shilla contest in the spring and summer of 2005, by Alphablast. It was to replace an old area in Shilla (pre-reset, called the Clone Tower) that was deemed out of context with the storyline. People usually train here after they finish training in the Ice Palace. Once you have trained here for a relatively long amount of time, surviving in the Baleful Swamp becomes possible.
The Catacombs require an Intelligence of 918, 1,020, or 1,122 depending on your race to enter. The quickest way to the Catacombs is via the Cemetery/Crypt teleport location go East once, then South all the way to the entrance. The Catacombs doesn't have any associated teleport locations, unfortunately.
Training
There are 3 levels of difficulty, the 1st level having the Animated Corpse and Daemon, 2nd level having the Ancient Sorcerer and Ancient Mage, and the 3rd level has the Necromancer, Carnage, and Phanganon.
Drops
The Daemon drops Fresh Flesh, the Ancient Mage drops Ancient Spirit Herb, and the Phanganon drops the Groping Carnage Ring.
The Fresh Flesh is used in the final Fetch Quest, for Bruno in the Dark Forest. (currently not in the game yet)
The 3rd Level
On the 3rd level is one of the ways that a character can meet and defeat the Limbo Keeper or Salena. Below you will find the steps to accomplish this task.
- Locate each of the 4 statues, which are shown on the map. When you free the spot of the creature, either by killing it or running away, it'll trigger something that you'll know soon.
- Once you've triggered all 4 statues you can go to the center, run away from or kill that creature, which makes a portal appear. The portal will take you to either one of the 4 statues, the Limbo Keeper or the location of Salena in the Great Plains.
- If you get teleported to one of the statues, you can just walk back to the portal and try again. But if you get teleported to the Limbo Keeper or Salena that you don't desire to go to, you have to work your way down through the all the levels of the Catacombs again and re-enter the center location. Thankfully having to re-trigger the statues isn't necessary.
