Dungeon of the Lost Souls

Overview

DOLS is known for being hard to navigate, with many twists, turns and stairs that lead to nowhere. It is actually a reverse area, with the hardest attacking creatures on Level 1 and the easiest at the bottom on Level 8.

Location

The entrance to the Dungeon of the Lost Souls (DOLS) is located in the Dungeon, East cell, of the middle row, 4th from the top.

Reasons to visit

The Traumatic Battlefield Rhino Statue, located on the hard to find Level 7, drops the Spectral Statuette. This miscellaneous item is an ingredient in forging a Divinity Bracelet.

Bards will need to visit Level 8 to find The Lost Notes as part of the Ballad of the Nimble song quest.

Level 8 contains a Mine where necessary components for enchanting weapons can be found.
Level 8 also has an oasis that acts like the Fountain in Shillatown.

And lastly a Fighter and Mage Shrine can be found on Level 8 that would have let a player imbue their armor if it would have been programmed to function.

The Creatures and Training

The creatures that make this area their home are mutated versions of those found in the Great Plains. Their max hit appears to be the nearly the same, but they have more life. None of the oddly named versions of Wolves, Cougars, Rocs, or Rhinos drop replenishing items and only Rhinos drop miscellaneous items until you get to Level 8 when all of the creatures do.

DOLS has been long overlooked as a place to gain experience. The data places it on the Training Progression Guide as a better alternative to some of the Haunted Islands, Upper Volcanos and even the Clouds. The creatures in DOLS are Other or Unknown, making them neither weak or strong vs any melee weapon. Earth alignment dominates in this area, with the Rocs being the only Air Aligned creatures. Lastly, the creatures here consistently have many more attacks then comparable creatures, making armor much more effective. The major drawback to the training in this area is that there are zero, zilch, nada food drops. Bring your own lunch I suppose.
