Enchanting A Weapon Guide

Intro

All 12 base weapons, Tier 8 and above, have the ability to be enchanted to increase various attributes to increase their effectiveness. Five enchantments is the maximum, but the difficulty of getting adding them increases with each added enchantment. This is due to the armor ingredient requirement and the exponentially increased failure rate when forging. The good news is that the weapon is never lost during failure as the character is always quick enough to remove it from the "overheating" forge. The bad news is all the enchantment ingredients are lost.

Basic Process

First, you'll need to obtain a base weapon that is Tier 8 or stronger. Next, you'll need four other ingredients: an armor, a gem, a food, and a miscellaneous. Once you have gathered everything then go to a specific forging location depending on the level of enchantment. Currently, T8 - T19 enchantments are forged in the Forge down from Level 9 in the Lower Volcano, T20 are in Olde Towne, T21-T22 are in Hell Pit, and T33 are in New Shilla.

Success Rates

As you work on enchanting your weapon, the odds of increasing the number of enchantments do go down in success rate. The table shows below:

1st enchantment 90%
2nd enchantment 70%
3rd enchantment(2 stat armor) 50%
4th enchantment(3 stat armor) 30%
5th enchantment(4 stat armor) 100%

There are 2 days in the month where it's "Enchantment Day", where these odds go up by 10% each.

If you fail to put an enchantment on a weapon, you do not lose the weapon. You just lose all the other ingredients needed to make it.

Specifics

Weapon

Anyone who reaches the level where enchanting will become viable should be familiar with the ways to obtain base weapons. Generally some are forged, others are creature drops, and other are bought. I haven't tried adding an enchantment to a bought weapon, but I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work. Using a rune to add an alignment to a weapon should happen AFTER adding any enchantments. See Runes for information on how to do that process. + weapons, like those dropped by Balthasar, Capt Skullhat, Henry the Hellish, and Gnome Devourer cannot be enchanted. Haven't tested if those as a reward for Dark Traveller, already have enchantments on them, can be further enchanted. They can, just treat them as they have existing enchantments. So for example, if it has one enchantment on it, follow the steps for the 2nd, 3rd and so on.. However, if it has any sort of Rune imbued into it, you can't add onto it any further.

Food, Gem, and Miscellaneous Ingredient

How you obtain these ingredients are as varied as the number of them. The food ingredient is the easiest. For T8 - T18 enchantments you'll need Desert Flux which is found in the DOLS mining spot on Level 8 (Hardest to get to, easiest to find) or as a 3-way treasure drop in the Vast Desert. (Easiest to get to, hardest to find). For the rest of the known enchantments you'll need Hell Flux. These can be mined in the Hell Pit mine location or they can be obtained through rare 4-way drops while treasure hunting. Put any you locate in your storage north of the Fountain.

The Gem and Miscellaneous ingredients are harder to find at times. Depending on your skill and proficiency level they can range from easy to mine/dig to impossible if your skill ad proficiency aren't high enough. At the higher leveled enchantments the ingredients become lower percentage finds in minds and digging locations. Others are uber rare creature drops. Expect this process to take time. One every thirty minutes of searching isn't unheard of.

Armor

While probably just as easy to obtain as the weapon once you can do it on your own, the armor ingredient has a quirk. The first two enchantments just use the armor listed on the Enchantment section of the Forge Combos page or later in this guide. The third enchantment then requires that armor with at least two stat attribute. An example of this would be if you try and add "of Dominion" as your third enchantment you would need a Stalwart Dragonplate Shield vs just and Elite version.

And this is where it becomes very difficult to add a fourth enchantment. You would need the armor to have three stat attributes, a very, very rare drop from Leader or Grandmaster versions of Elite creatures, which are rare to find in an of themselves. See the table above for success rates.

Skills

Skill usage are closely tied to enchanting since many of the ingredients are located using them. Skills have their own page here, but I'll put any specific information directly used in enchanting here as well.

The Mining Skill can be obtained in the Dwarven Stronghold or the newly created Goblin Cave. Once you have the skill you can go to the Skills Trainer in Shillatown (6 E and 1N of Fountain) and use experience to increase the skill level. It takes approximately 8 billion experience points to reach Level 500.

The Digging Skill can be obtained on the Beach or in the Goblin Cave. Train the skill is done the same way as Mining. It takes approximately 4 billion experience points to reach Level 500.

Woodcutting is a skill used much later in the game for this purpose, as the "Coconut Trees" in Cafe Au Lait need to be cut down. You'll be using this skill for other purposes so it won't get covered much here, just assume you'll have it at lvl 1000 at that point in the game.

Tools required

Each skill will need a specific tool(weapon) equipped that will allow you to perform the action. Without the specific tool (weapon) equipped the action can not be performed.

Ingredient Locations

Dwarven Mines

Located in the eastern section of the Dwarven Stronghold and probably the first mining location your character will encounter. The spot just south of the Pearl drop location, i.e. the Middle Spot, drops many items, but I'll only list the ones involved in enchanting here.

Cave Mine - Ogre Cave Location

This location is down from the Ogre Cave teleport location. You'll need the ability to Burrow to get past the Ogre Eating Cave Spider spot. Head down past the elite creatures and you'll find a mining location similar to the Cave Mine in the Ocean area.

The chart below will let you know what skill and proficiency are needed to find the ingredients located in this area.

You'll find yourself on a one directional path that will eventually dead end. If you have forgotten to equip your pickaxe, do so and refresh the page to see the "Work Here" button. Make sure you know how to swim and can pass a Whirlpool if you randomly get attacked by one. You can only teleport out of this location.

This remote mining location can be found in the southern section of Level 8. Use the maps on the area page to find your way down, and make sure to bring enough food to replenish your used fatigue from skill use. I'll be lobbying for a teleportation spot once a character has 100% discovery that will shorten this trip. Lower Volcano

This mining location is the easiest to find on Level 8 of the Volcano. Both shifting paths of Level 8 have a mining location. One is just a clone of the mines located in the Dwarven Stronghold. Luckily, the mining spot you'll be using for enchanting ingredients is the one always appears when you enter this level of the volcano. At XXX skill level the Dwarven Stronghold mined items will disappear and Solid Rock, Iron Ore, and enchanting ingredients will only appear.

This mining location high up in this difficult area. You take massive damage from falling down and from the cold, so watch your life unless you have the correct Charms of Watchfulness equipped. Numerous "Move to Kill" spots prevent you from traveling to this mining location unless you can conquer all creatures. The only ingredient that can't be found somewhere else is the Moonstone, used in only the highest forges.
