I occasionally see if I can find anything new/old about this game which at one time meant so much to me. I was surprised to come across this on a google search and to see somewhat recent posts.
Different name on here, I don't go by my older names. Have not in a very very long time. If anyone sees this, you might remember me as Ashaint (Or Radagast when I became an Admin, sorry for those of you who may not remember me fondly (at all LOL) <__<; ). I saw posts from JK on here and I recall talking to him quite a bit back in those days. I remember BP, Bonzo, Thinkso, Hestas, Melkor … I had a really good friend I chatted with a lot, she was from Australia … I never knew what happened with her … I wish i remembered more names …
My cousin played too, I remember his character got stuck in a room (eternally) which got removed from the game at one point … ended his short career in Shilla. I remember all the crazy weddings we did, the chat sweeps … Hestas' crazy rainbow name tag … I could almost still recall the exact RGB code he used to make the admin's names "perfectly gold" as he once told me. I remember spending (what felt like) MONTHS it felt like updating all the code for the ocean, which I got shafted into accomplishing during the big reset (for those of you that don't know … the game engine was a nightmare to update as each "room" was a separately coded .html HTML/OS file … and the ocean area was massive … the html/os text editor was more evil than Melkor too …). I remember getting in trouble with Hestas for making diagonal directions in the "random" mapped volcano area because it made it easier for people to figure out. What was it? "Oops, dying sucks?" making me ragequit more than I care to admit …
Has anyone noticed or have any info why shilla.org is back up with some of the old graphics? Has someone bought it and remaking the game? I used to still have everything I worked on pretty well documented, even hand drawn maps from when I made some of the newer areas during that long reset where we updated a lot of the old HTML/OS code. When Melkor joined up and him and Hestas started making a lot of really complicated changes … I kind of had a hard time following and decided to quit. I think over the years though I've lost most everything to harddrive crashes. At one point Thinkso and I were working together on a different game I was coding in perl … but I ran into a lot of issues as the engine got larger and more complicated, mostly stuff at the time I wasn't skilled enough to sort out.
Anywho, glad to see that some of the players are still trying to kind of keep in touch! :) I have a few friends I had gotten pretty close to at the time, which I still think about and miss quite a bit …
