Umbral Plane

Overview

Umbral Plane is currently one of the final areas of Shilla.

Gaining Access

You will need to be both aligned with Evil and be wearing the Umbral Pendant to enter the portal found at the Water Guardian location in Atlantise. Additionally, it is recommended that you wear your most powerful set of Warlock Rings. (Not to be confused with Warlock Chaos Rings which won't help you at all) Also get in the habit of always considering before attacking any creature on this plane. This may save your life if you changed out rings your Warlock rings and forgot to equip them again. To get an Umbral Pendant, read the Astral Forge quest page.

Becoming Evil

To switch your alignment to Evil, go to Haunted Crypt. Note to be Evil aligned, you need to have killed a number of Good aligned creatures, which means you should have spent some time in the Astral Plane since killing Good creatures will turn you Evil.
This area is mostly for training and getting high level food.

Training

While the Astral Plane can be used for some training, its mainly for getting the Astral Ring drops, which help boost resistance to either Good, Evil or Spirit monsters + life, mana, or fatigue % rings. Having fatigue as your ring bonus seems to help with special attack damage, though this aspect of Astral Rings is not fully researched. Astral Plane does drop food, but it is no where near enough to sustain training.

Spiritual Plane can be used for training, but all the monsters are Elite Monsters which means they give more exp, but can go first and if not paying attention kill you.

So the Umbral Plane is mostly where you'll be grinding out the massive amount of experience you'll need to go from each creature group to the next. Two aspects of this plane are advantageous for this fortunately. The first is it drops far more food than the Astral Plane, the second is that you can taylor which two creatures you want to face.

You start with a position of (0,0,0)
This is the base position when you enter the plane. Going Down at this point returns you the Water Guardian location in Atlantis.

To figure out how to train here, you need to know a few things. You will only fight creature in paired groups, so we'll call them Creature A and Creature B. Going East or West does nothing to determine which two creatures you will face, so use those directions to train safely. Theoretically facing the two creatures you can 1 round and will give the most experience.

Going North or South will change Creature A.
Going Up or Down will change Creature B.

If you have the same 2 groups together, for example where you start at (0,0), one of the creatures will be from the next group up. So at (0,0) you will face a Dark Gargoyle paired with the Umbral Orc if you travel east or west.

Below is the table showing where each creature will appear in either an Up/Down or North/South position. The process repeats itself at 50 with the Umbral Orc again.

Monster Start End
Umbral Orc 0 4
Dark Gargoyle 5 9
Manticore 10 14
Evil Imp 15 19
Dark Dragon 20 24
Pit Fiend 25 29
Umwolf 30 34
Devil's Warrior 35 39
Umboamancer 40 44
Umbral Lord 45 49

You'll want to put the creature that will yield the greater experience as your Creature A. The frequency of Creature A vs Creature B is 3 to 1.

Below you will find a table that will show the affect of the Small and Big bounties on your possible creature selection. I used the base experience values for each creature. By the time you get to this level you will get tremendously more because of badge bonuses.

Creature Base Exp Huge Bounty Regular Bounty Both Bounties
Umbral Orc 1.92 4.8 2.88 7.68
Dark Gargoyle 4.27 10.675 6.405 17.08
Manicore 6.61 16.525 9.915 26.44
Evil Imp 8.96 22.4 13.44 35.84
Dark Dragon 11.31 28.275 16.965 45.24
Pit Fiend 13.65 34.125 20.475 54.6
Umbrolf 16 40 24 64
Devil's Warrior 18.35 45.875 27.525 73.4
Umbroamancer 20.7 51.75 31.05 82.8
Umbral Lord 23.04 57.6 34.56 92.16

Surviving

Creature data may come eventually, but it's all about Warlock Rings. Unfortunately, these rings cannot be sent like the rest of the planes rings can. And you may be able to survive, but will soon find out that grinding on group isn't worth it because of constantly having to heal.
